Hiking Trails on Durmitor: 12 Marked Routes for Every Level

Durmitor offers 12 marked hiking trails covering the entire national park — from easy family walks beside the lakes to demanding ascents of the highest peaks. Whether it's your first time on the mountain or you're looking for a real challenge, you'll find a trail to match.

1. Three Lakes

Durmitor's classic easy walk and a great first encounter with the mountain. The trail is short, well marked and suitable for families with children — ideal for that first day when you want to feel the mountain without much effort.

2. Ćurevac

The iconic viewpoint above Tara Canyon, one of the most beautiful and easily accessible views on the whole of Durmitor. A short trail leads to a breathtaking panorama. More about Durmitor's best viewpoints.

3. Žabljak Lakes

A walk connecting Black Lake with the surrounding alpine meadows, through dense coniferous forest and open pastures. An easy route with plenty of opportunities for photography and relaxing by the water.

4. Planinica (loop)

An accessible loop trail with panoramic views of central Durmitor, Žabljak and Black Lake. A good option for recreational walkers who want a lovely view without a demanding climb.

5. Savin Kuk

Durmitor's classic viewpoint, also reachable by cable car in summer. The view of Black Lake and the surrounding peaks makes this a favourite among guests looking for a moderately demanding but rewarding walk.

6. Crvena Greda

A lesser-known but exceptionally beautiful trail with views over northern Durmitor. For those who want to explore the mountain away from the busiest routes.

7. Međed (loop)

A picturesque loop through central Durmitor, with views down over Black Lake. A moderately demanding route combining forest, rock and open viewpoints.

8. Sedlo – Komarnica

A route through Komarnica Canyon — less known, wild and authentic. A more demanding tour for those seeking peace and untouched nature away from the crowds.

9. Prutaš

The master of southern Durmitor (2,393 m) and one of the most photogenic peaks in the region. A demanding full-day ascent, but the view from the top is among the finest on the mountain.

10. Bobotov Kuk

The roof of Durmitor at 2,523 m — the mountain's highest peak and the dream of every serious hiker. A demanding tour for experienced, fit hikers, ideally with a guide.

11. Heart of Durmitor

A tour from Sedlo over the highest peaks, for those who want to experience the mountain in its full grandeur. A very demanding, full-day adventure.

12. Mali & Veliki Međed (loop)

Durmitor's ultimate challenge — the most demanding loop tour on offer, reserved for elite-level hikers.

How to Choose the Right Trail

Most trails don't require a guide, but for more demanding routes like Bobotov Kuk or Mali and Veliki Međed, we recommend an organised hike with an experienced guide. Camp Apartments Razvršje is located right next to Black Lake and the starting points of most trails, so you can set off on foot directly from the camp for many of the routes. We can help with choosing a route, providing a GPS track and estimating how much time you'll need based on your fitness level.
